Aberdeenshire Community Planning Partnership

KMAP works in conjunction with the local council to ensure the best quality of life for everyone in Aberdeenshire. Our aims are to:

  • To establish a framework for addressing issues including tourism arising in the costal strip defined in the Structure Plan as a regeneration area.
  • Support the delivery of the Rural Aberdeenshire LEADER programme and work of the Aberdeenshire Local Action Group (LAG)
  • Encourage and support community groups in K&M to access European union funding sources such as SRDP and LEADER.
  • Explore the potential of developing a centralised database of training opportunities for volunteers and community groups to be available on the internet.
  • Find and implement a solution to the need identified by the Portlethen parks Group for improved and accessible community play park facilities in Portlethen.
  • Develop a forum for groups working on sustainable, environmental projects in K&M which will; focus on networking and knowledge exchange
  1. Assist in identifying common/shared purposes.
  2. Support groups to develop realistic projects which will reduce the area's carbon footprint.
  3. Engage the community to establish if a target such as carbon neutrality Kincardine and Mearns has support.
  • Reduce the proportion of municipal waste going to landfill down to 50% by 2013 through sustainable waste disposal and reuse services such as:
  1. Extension of food waste collections to households in rural areas by June 2010
  2. Investigate the establishment of a re-use project for household items in Stonehaven
  3. Investigate the demand for an improved and sustainable recycling facility in Portlethen.
  • Promote initiatives aimed at nurturing responsible relationships with the local environment with a focus on:

1. Reducing littering through schemes such as Adopt-a-Street and national Spring Clean.

2.  Reduce dog fouling by promoting Green Dog walkers initiative.

  • Deliver locally on the actions and recommendations outlined in The Aberdeenshire Walking and Cycling Action Plan:

1.  Where resources allow implement the Core Path Plan, enhancing accessibility for all.

2. Explore possibilities for providing bike friendly bus services.

3.  Support the provision of bike storage facilities.

4.  Promote schemes such as Cycle to Work and planning procedures that support cycling and walking.

5.  Deliver skills and safety development.

  • Support the development of a Community Trust that will distribute funds generated by a new Wind Farm at Tullo to local projects.
  • Support community facilities, businesses and households to become more energy efficient.
  1. Encourage and support the adoption of bio-mass and other renewable energy sources.
  2. Promote funding sources such as The Energy Saving Trust, CARES, The Carbon Trust, and the various EU funds.
  3. Review the support required by village halls to transition to more sustainable energy consumption.
  4. Delivery of Moving Mearns Forward  a sustainability conference  in March of 2010.
  5. Delivery of Energy Aware Road shows across the area.
  6. Work with SCARF to aim to eradicate fuel poverty across Aberdeenshire by 2016 through initiatives directed at improving energy efficiency in housing across all tenures and at reducing fuel costs for Aberdeenshire residents.
