Recycling Project Kincardine & Mearns Recycle – Appeal for Help A new project being set up in the Kincardine & Mearns area is about to be launched and it urgently needs your help. ‘K&M Recycle’ is being set up by the Kincardine & Mearns Area Partnership (KMAP) along with a number of other local organisations including CVSA, SEAS, SATRA, Forestview Day Centre and Aberdeenshire Council. The project will establish facilities at Local Authority Waste Recycling Centres in the area, to enable the collection of re-usable household and gardening items as well as bicycles, prams etc which would otherwise end up in landfill. The items would then be made available to the general public at an accessible shop location. The project has a business plan and is to be set up as a Social Enterprise. It has loads of support locally and is all ready to get going but it is being held up because it has been unable to find suitable premises. If you know of any watertight building in the K&M area that would be available we would love to hear from you. It could be an unused farm building or large shed of some description. We also require storage units to place at the Waste Recycling Centres. Do you know of any that could be available to us? Perhaps you know of an oil company or such like that have some that are currently surplus to requirements? Our need list goes on aswe also require a van of some description to transport goods. This would be used to take items from the Waste Recycling Centres and also to make house collections and deliveries. A great opportunity for a company to advertise itself while helping an excellent project. Finally but also most importantly the other thing we will require when the project starts is volunteers. This is a fabulous project promoting the re-use of household material which would otherwise end up in landfill. It will provide work, training opportunities and furniture for disadvantaged members of the community - a very worthwhile enterprise to become involved with.
Currently, because of health & safety regulations, members of the public are restricted in their ability to remove items from recycling centres after they have been placed there. Only recognized recycling companies, who have contracts with the Council, are able to remove material. These contracts are, in the main, associated with glass, plastic, electrical, wood, paper and cardboard which are broken down and recycled unlike this project which wishes to re-use items. All household and domestic items such as furniture, bicycles and general items are not collected by these companies but end up in the general container which goes to landfill.
If you are able to help us in any way we would love to hear from you. Please contact: Vickie Alexander at KMAP 3rd Floor, 42-46 Barclay Street, Stonehaven AB39 2AX Telephone: 01569 763246 Email: vickie.kmap@btconnect.com |
